Welcome to my Dungeon Meshi shrine, a page dedicated to the Dungeon Meshi Manga! I absolutely adore this manga, the story, art and characters are all absolutely top notch, and I really wanted to make a page where I can gush about my love for this story!
Dungeon Meshi, also called Delicious in Dungeon, is a fantasy-comedy-cooking manga written and illustrated by Ryōko Kui. It started back in February of 2014, and the final chapter came out very recently, ending in September 2023. The art, characters, and plot come together to create something that, in my eyes, is truly special.
The story follows Laios Touden, and his two companions, Marcille Donato and Chilchuck Tims, as they venture into the dungeon to save Laios' sister, Falin from the red dragon- pretty classic setup. There's one problem though; they don't have any money for food, so they're going to have to live off of the dungeon itself- they have to cook and eat monsters. Laios is pretty excited about this, much to the protest of his two party members. Along the way, they meet a dwarf named Senshi, who's an expert in dungeon cooking, and goes along with them on their adventure. The plot kicks off from there, with lots of cool lore, story beats, twists and turns, and of course, a lot of very delicous food.
So, if you keep up with anime news, you'll know that an anime adaptation of Dungeon Meshi was announced, and a trailer dropped a few months ago. As someone who really loves all of the aspects of the manga, I'm cautiously excited. I'm always pretty careful when adaptations of properties I love are made, as I've been burned before, so I wanted to make this dedication specifically to the manga. And hey, if the anime comes out and is great, that means I get to expand the scope of this shrine! And if it sucks, I'll complain about it here as well!
